History

Colburn Manufacturing was founded in 1999 by Scott Larson in a garage in Robbinsdale, MN. The original shop consisted of a manual lathe, a manual mill, and a Hardinge CNC lathe was added shortly after opening.

Colburn Manufacturing quickly outgrew its original space and in 2001 moved from Robbinsdale to Osseo, MN expanding to a space of 720 square feet. Continued growth soon required a move to a larger space of 3000 square feet. The Company added a Citizen Swiss machine (the first Swiss for the shop) as well as a Kitamura CNC Milling Center. Deltronic Optical Comparator was added to ensure quality control.

In 2004 Colburn expanded to a newly built building in Big Lake, MN. The company added 4 more Swiss machines were purchased, as was a Micro-Vu camera inspection system, 3 microscopes and 4 tumbling machines to further expand inspection and quality control. To aid in clean up and fluid conservation, the Company added a chip spinning oil recovery. In addition, the Company also added 3 different tool sharpening machines.

In 2014, Colburn purchased and relocated to a 15,000 sq. ft. building in Fridley. In 2015, Colburn added an additional three Swiss Machines. At customer requests, in 2016 Colburn achieved certification for both ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485:2003. In 2017, Colburn was further certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016.

Colburn Manufacturing now has 10 CNC Swiss machines, Citizen and Tsugami, with a range of .25 to 32.0mm diameters. The Company also has a robust inspection and cleaning department and has additionally further enhanced oil recovery and recycling systems.
