History

Colburn Manufacturing was founded in 1999 by Scott Larson in a garage in Robbinsdale, MN. The original shop consisted of a manual lathe and a manual mill.

Colburn Manufacturing quickly outgrew its original space and in 2001 moved from Robbinsdale to Osseo, MN expanding to a space of roughly 720 square feet. Growing quickly, the company then moved to an even larger space of roughly 3,000 square feet. While in Osseo, a Citizen Swiss machine (the first Swiss machine for the shop) as well as a Kitamura CNC milling center were added. Quality control at these facilities were aided by a Deltronic optical comparator.

In 2004 Colburn moved to a new building in Big Lake, MN. In this location 5 more Swiss machines were purchased, as was a Micro-Vu camera inspection system. 3 microscopes and 4 tumbling machines were also added to the inspection and quality control. A chip spinning oil recovery system was also purchased to aid in cleanup and fluid conservation. 3 different tool sharpening machines were purchased as well.

In 2014, Colburn purchased and moved in to a 15,000 sq. ft. building in Fridley. In 2015, Colburn added an additional three Swiss Machines.
